Device Managers (DMs) are members of the PLR community who will be responsible for maintaining specific device integrations, documentation, etc. within the context of PLR. They will be able to approve/merge pull requests for those devices and are generally the contact points for users/new contributors/existing contributors. Changes that touch the core library will still need approval from the core team (@CamilloMoschner or me) as before & the core team will also still be considered maintainers for the entire library. The goal with this is to distribute maintenance work and give people more flexibility in managing devices they are experts in. This is also how Linux works.
DMs:
- need consistent hardware access to a given device
- need PLR forum account so people can contact them
- are ideally a vendor/robot maker, but in the meantime we will have community members do it for devices where the vendor is not yet willing
- require prior contributions (or addition if it’s new) and deep knowledge to that device
- be willing to review pull requests
