PLR - Venus version compatibility

We’re considering updating our Hamilton STARs from Venus 4 to Venus 6. We’re also considering starting to develop STAR methods with PLR.

What is the current compatibility of PLR Venus backend and PLR STAR backend with Hamilton STARs configured to work with Venus 6?

My understanding is updating to Venus 6 will require a firmware update and I’m wondering if this will have any impact on PLR compatibility. I’m not sure if there have been any changed to the Hamilton STAR API between Venus 4 and Venus 6 either.

Thank you and sorry if this is a basic question but I haven’t found a clear answer elsewhere.

Welcome to the forum!

PLR is agnostic to the devices firmware version. some newer special features like z probing might not be available on older, but existing features remain compatible. We even support firmware that is not supported in Venus anymore! Like iswap v3 (the portrait only one)

PLR also doesn’t make changes to the machine, it’s just client side, so when using PLR you can use Venus after (as long as that version of Venus supports your robot that is :joy:)
