Why does z touch fail if the year of the pip channel version is < 2022? Are we sure that’s the case/has Hamilton confirmed it or is it just that it has not been tested in pylabrobot with a pip channel older than 2022?

it is a new firmware command that does not exist on older firmwares
when you try to use it on older ones, they will not recognize the firmware
if you have the right software, you will be able to update your channels

Can confirm: Hamilton STAR did not have a firmware command that can do the ztouch sensing before March 2022
(More specifically: I tried for ages to use the aspirate command with lldmode 4, that is what made me conclude this standalone firmware command should exist, but I was searching for almost 1 year before I found it 
Aspirated with lldmode 4 is completely unsuitable as a substitute because it doesn’t expose fine control of the ztouch/force parameters, i.e. its crash is too fast and imo dangerous and I had to build a safer version for PLR)
