Troubleshooting used Thermo/ABI Automated Thermocycler (ATC)

I just received a 96w ABI automated thermocyler from ebay & cannot get a connection over the ethernet port working.

I suspect there may be a hardware problem, but perhaps another PLR user is more familiar with their device & can help us get ours working.

The instrument turns on, initializes after 30s, and starts heating the lid and block successfully.

However, the ethernet port does not seem to establish a connection properly. When connected to a switch, network activity lights do not activate. When connected directly to a computer, there is no physical link negotiation on the onboard Ethernet (as if no wire is connected.)

Bypassing the ethernet bridge & connecting directly to the port on the internal control board does not change the situation. The control board appears to power on.

Because no physical connection is established, nmap reveals no IPs on the switch / network, and the “ATC Demo” .exe from thermo is similarly unable to discover the device from control box serial number hostname or by searching the network.

Do we think this is a hardware error, or simply using the device in the wrong way? Here is what it physically looks like inside:

The control board w/ ethernet port is likely running a linux distro, so my next step is to bring up a serial console and discover what is happening to en0, plus any data stored inside.

Could someone else with an ATC confirm their internals look the same? To eliminate the chance this is indeed a hardware failure:

Thermo has offered to replace the control board for $$$$, but I suspect there is a cheaper solution hiding in plain sight…

It appears DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 fails to find any connections on bootup, but the SILA provider does successfully start just before the thermocycler block fans spool up / initialize. Not able to get into root with defaults, will report back if I learn anything more.
